About

The Olivet First Baptist Church is a bible teaching church and was founded in 1970 by a missionary from the U.S.A named Robert Jenkins. He started off the church with about twelve members in a little wooden building on Bay Street, Portsmouth. It later moved to the downstairs of Mr. Ivon Green’s building on the same street.

During the early years of the church from 1978 to 1979, with the help of God and Brother Jenkins, the church was able to purchase land to construct its own church building. After much fervent praying, persistent and earnest labouring by the church members and a timely miracle from God, the church building was completed at its present location at Zicack, Portsmouth, Dominica. The church formally opened its doors for worship in 1980.

The church continued to grow and helped in the community of Portsmouth.  A Children’s Home ministry was started where the underprivileged were fed both physically and spiritually. It continued to be a blessing to many families for several years.

Over the years, the church has had the privilege of being led by several pastors. In 1976, Pastor Emmanuel Parillon was instituted as the first pastor, while the church was located on Bay Street.  In 1980, Pastor John Massicot became the pastor and served for ten years. In February of 2000, Pastor Joseph Alexander Luke became the pastor and he served for seven years.  In 2007, Pastor Michael Joseph became the pastor and served for seven years. In May of 2015, Pastor Angust Preston Simon became the pastor and is currently the serving pastor of the church.
