Baptism

Now that you have become a Christian, it is important that you continue the journey of faith and obedience to Christ in order to grow and mature spiritually. One step we encourage you to take soon after accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior is baptism. Jesus Christ set the example when He was baptized by John. Baptism is an act of obedience to Jesus Christ, and illustrates to others that you have chosen to follow Him.

What is baptism?
Baptism means to immerse, to dip or to submerge in water. Baptism is a symbol that affirms your belief in Christ and declares to everyone that you are now a follower of Jesus Christ. It symbolizes the death of your old sinful life as you are immersed into the water and being raised to a new life in Jesus Christ as you are lifted out of the water (Romans 6:3-5). Baptism also illustrates Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection in the same way.(1 Cor 15:3-4).

Why should you be baptized?
Baptism is commanded by Jesus (Mathew 28:19).
It is a public confession of your faith (Mathew 10:32).
It shows that you have joined the fellowship of the local church and also identify yourself with Christ’s followers all over the world ( Acts 2:41).

When should you be baptized?
As soon as you are saved and understand what it means to be baptized.
